Connecticut Beverage Company, Inc. was founded in 1928. Onofrio "Humphrey" Amedeo, Jr.'s father, a teenage immigrant with no education and litle English, would sell soda orders, return to the plant and make soda, then go back out and deliver it door to door. The company was then the Washington Club Bottling Works of Norwich. Orange, root beer, cream and other sodas were the market, as the nation was gripped by Depression and Prohibition.

When Prohibition was repealed, Amedeo's father switched to beer distribution. His first brand was Pride of Newark, which he bought from the New Jersey-based brewery. He began distributing hard liquor in 1947, when he incorporated as Connecticut Beverage Company, Inc. Snapple and their own juices under the brand name "Puffin Pure" are now its mainstay products.

Connecticut Beverage's products change to suit the times, but all along it has remained a family business. Humphrey Amedeo, Jr. is joined in the operations by his son, Humphrey Amedeo, III and his wife, Carol. Both are life long partners that make a strong, stable company.
